This is my birthday week!! Now that I live in Santa Barbara, I’m excited to start new birthday traditions. Waking up to hearing my almost 2 year old son singing me Happy Birthday was the highlight of my week already. On Friday, I’ll be recording my first podcast for Santa Barbara Life and Culture Podcast. I’m really excited. Here’s the things that have kept me going this week…
St. Lucia - Remixed: The second I heard the song “Walking Away” remixed by one of my favorite’s RAC, I knew it was something special. This one song is getting repeated in my studio more times than my son watching Moana. It’s so catchy and bouncy, the perfect energy to get going in the morning or when you’re drawing late at night. All the remixes on this album are fun. Check out more of St. Lucia at www.stlucianewyork.com/
Tensei -Constellate - I don’t even know where to start with this album. This group has single handedly recaptured my love for all things chill hop. It’s silky smooth, groovy, jazzy, and brings me back to some of my all time favs like Digable Planets and US3. The incredible vocal performances on this album and really dope raps make the music pop even more. I could listen to this everyday and be happy. Honestly, don’t sleep on this one! Tara Jacoby: Tara is a New York based illustrator whose work is so inspiring and fun. She has worked on so many different kinds of projects and each one always catches my eye. Her most recent project is a book called “The Father of All Dad Guides from (A)doring to (Z)addy is super brilliant. Definitely one to pick up on Amazon. I also love one of her recent illustrations for the Washington Post where she collaborated with the awesome AD Chris Rukan to make a hilarious cover for Outlook. Check out more of her work at http://tarajacoby.com/
MTV’s The Challenge: I know this might sound ridiculous that a show like this is inspirational, but first off, I’m a huge fan of TJ Lavin, who is an individual that always reminds me to “never quit” and to always work hard. Also, I really enjoy watching these crazy people battle it out in some of the most inventive and clever challenges out there. This show has always been a staple in my diet, and will continue to do so for as long as the show shall last. This newest season which just began this week looks like the craziest and most entertaining one yet! I can’t wait for more!
Justin Fantl: This photographer has been one of my favorites for years now. Not only is he supremely talented, but a super nice guy as well. His work always captures the world in a way that I would have never thought to look at it. He sees patterns ,colors, shapes, and objects in a completely fresh way that no other photographer is doing. I highly recommend checking out his phenomenal work here… justinfantl.com/
That’s all for this week! More inspirations to come every week! Stay tuned!
