Weekly Inspiration for the Week of February 18, 2019

Finally the rain has stopped! I haven’t seen this much rain in California for at least 20 years. It’s been insane! This week my son Leo turned 2. For his birthday he wanted chocolate cake with sprinkles, so we delivered big time. With the rain out of the way, we had an awesome beach party. Now, this week I’m back to focusing on finding new projects and collabs to work on while finishing some long term projects that feel like they will never end. Every day is kind of like a race to finish as much as possible and never having enough time, so to keep me going… these little bits of inspiration did the trick…

  • Music Inspiration:

The Cat Empire - Stolen Diamonds: I’ve been a fan of this incredibly talented group of musicians from Australia for at least a decade and on every new album they always deliver. They are the ultimate mix of genres, blending and innovating in new ways with each song they create. They always make me feel super inspired because they are one of the most creative bands you will ever listen to. They are also one of the best live bands I’ve ever seen! Check out their official site here… https://thecatempire.com/

Stats - Other People’s Lives: I just discovered this album on a whim and it’s really rad. A super eclectic mix of nostalgia from 70’s art rock to 80’s new wave and synthpop, it sounds as if this album was a classic from another time. Their modern twist on production gives it a bright and airy feel as if I’m listening to the next gen of Talking Heads and David Bowie. It’s absolutely fantastic. • Artistic Inspiration:

Chris Buzelli: This week I wanted to take a moment to recognize an artist that has been inspiring me for years. His level of craftsmanship is on another level and his color palettes, technique, attention to detail, and unique perspective is what makes him an award winning illustrator. He graces magazines, books, and even the New York Subway. Everytime I see new work from Chris, it makes me excited to be part of a creative industry that has this kind of talent to be inspired from. • Screen Inspiration:

Ray Romano - Right Here Around the Corner: I was super excited to see a brand new stand up special from the one and only Ray Romano. This comedy special reminded me why I fell in love with “Everybody Loves Raymond” years ago. His brand of humor on marriage, life with kids, and his everyday life are just so funny, smart, and awesome to listen to. I felt so inspired after this because of how “real and authentic” he is. He doesn’t hide anything from his personal life and isn’t afraid to share it with the audience. That is a lesson I can learn from him as a creative. I also love how we got to see where it all started for him and then book ends with him and his family sharing a pizza at a local spot down the street from the club. Hats off to you Mr. Romano on a classic comedy special. Check it out now on Netflix.

  • Other Inspiration:

F Minus by Tony Carrillo: Every now and then I remember to check out one of my all time favorite comic strips and it always delivers. It’s witty, smart, full of puns, and makes me chuckle. Sometimes during a long day by myself, I need a quick laugh or be taken into a new head space and this comic gives me just that. Check it out here… https://www.gocomics.com/fminus

That’s all for this week! More inspirations to come every week! Stay tuned!
