Weekly Inspiration for the week of January 1, 2019

Welcome to my weekly inspiration blog. Every week I will be doing some bullet journaling about the things that I’ve found recently to be super inspiring towards my work as a freelance illustrator. I hope they will help others who love to explore and find new things to help them on their journey as creatives.

  • Music Inspiration:

Toro Y Moi - Outer Peace. Wow, what an eclectic mix of sounds, grooves, and all around incredible creative making music. There is even a song called “Freelance”. Could this be any more perfect!

Little People - Landloper. I’m not sure how I came across this album but it is so fluid from start to finish. I feel like it’s the soundtrack to my brain when it’s coming up with ideas. This has been on constant repeat for me! Amazing album!

  • Artistic Inspiration:

Henning Wagenbreth: I discovered his illustration work as the front cover of the New York Times Magazine this past November. His style is super fun, colorful, and whimsical. I’m a huge fan! Check out his work at www.wagenbreth.com

  • Screen Inspiration:

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Season 2. During the first episode I wasn’t so sure but as you get into the season you realize that they have done an unbelievable job of exploring the world and the characters. Also, the way this show is shot is so beautiful to look at. It’s absolutely mesmerizing!

  • Other Inspiration:

Creative Pep Talk Podcast. I would be remiss to not mention that I am always constantly listening to this podcast. I listen to it while I work, while I go for runs, or when I’m driving around town. Andy J. Pizza is not only funny and witty, but has excellent insight and is the kind of guy that if we lived in the same town, I’m pretty sure I’d want him to be my best friend! Check it out on itunes!

My son Leo. Leo is 22 months old and every day he inspires me to be the best father, husband, artist, and human I can be! He is hilarious, precocious, fun, and smart. I love every minute I get to spend with him! Although it’s not easy to juggle a freelance illustrator career while spending time with my son, I’m super thankful of the flexibility I have to be there for him whenever he needs me.

That’s all for this week! More inspirations to come every week! Stay tuned!
