Weekly Inspiration for the Week of January 14, 2019

This week started off with me jumping right into my projects only to be halted pretty suddenly by the fever that hit my 2 year old son and a huge rain storm that has hit Santa Barbara. It’s a tricky balance between being a freelancer and a Dad but I’m thankful to have the flexibility to be with my boy when he needs me. Here’s some of the influences that have kept me going through the trying week.

  • Music Inspiration:

The Oles - Rise: I had the honor of collaborating with this Santa Barbara based band recently for a concert poster. Their music is pure reggae pop bliss. This album has been on constant repeat in my studio as it brings massively good vibes during the rainy weather. Check them out if you haven’t heard them yet.

Potatohead People: This album has the most fantastic vibe between chill out and headbobbing grooves. I literally can’t stop listening to it. The song “Morning Sun” is a great way to start the day with your cup of coffee.

  • Artistic Inspiration:

Ryan Snook: I have been a big fan of Ryan’s ever since I discovered his work in Atlanta Magazine. His artwork is colorful, whimsical, and I think we have a lot of things in common. His editorial concepts are clever and he is great with page layout and making compositions that pop off the page. Check out his work at www.ryansnook.com

  • Screen Inspiration:

Project Blue Book: I have been on a massive History Channel kick as of late and I watched the pilot to this awesome new series about a secret organization that was created by the U.S. Government to cover up their run ins with UFO’s and ET’s. I find it intriguing and mind provoking.

  • Other Inspiration:

City of San Francisco: I have been working on some label designs for a brewery up in the Bay, and I’ve been doing a ton of research into San Francisco. After growing up in the Bay and always loving the city, I have more appreciation for it than ever since I haven’t lived there since my childhood. I love the art, culture, and architecture. Although it’s changed so much since I was a kid, my heart will always be there, just like Tony Bennett.

Modern Times: This brewery seems to be pumping out more delicious beer by the week. I can’t get over how many phenomenal beers this place has in the marketplace at this time. It’s really amazing. I just picked up the Nitro stout with coffee and coconut and it’s incredible. The perfect winter time beer! Thank you Modern Times!

That’s all for this week! More inspirations to come every week! Stay tuned!
