Weekly Inspiration for the Week of January 27, 2019

This week has been off to a tough start. Another cold for my son Leo made Monday a non working day, and now I’m playing catch up. I did however, finish my latest postcard mailer that I can’t wait to send out to all my potential future clients. I’ve learned that when things aren’t going the way you want them to, you just have to take a second to re-calibrate, and then try another way. Persistence is the only word that matters as a freelancer. Here’s the things that have kept me going this week…

  • Music Inspiration:

Junius Meyvant - Across the Borders: Finally a new album from Icelandic folk singer/songwriter Junius Meyvant. My wife and I first discovered his music while travelling around Iceland on our honeymoon and his beautiful voice and soft melodies fit perfectly with the gorgeous landscape around us. Everytime I hear him, it brings me back to that place and for that, I will always be a lifelong fan. This album might be his best yet, with heartfelt lyrics and real bloody passion packed into every song.

Royal Canoe - Waver - Discovered this album on a random whim, and am so happy I did because I love the cool laid back vibe of this album. Been playing it constantly in my studio while I sketch. Check out the song “RAYZ”, a definite future indie rock classic.

  • Artistic Inspiration:

Gaston Pacheco: Gaston’s artwork has such an unbelievably smoothness to it. The characters are lush and the color palette he uses is so welcoming and makes every detail pop. He is also amazing with isometric style and creating unique perspectives. I can’t say enough good things and I love to see the newest creations he comes up with. • Screen Inspiration:

Bob’s Burgers: I have been a fan of this show since the very beginning. Somehow, each season they are able to keep coming up with incredibly clever plot lines and exceptional jokes. This is not only the kind of cartoon I’d want to write on, but one I’d want to create as well. The characters are so relatable and remind you of your own family in different aspects. If you’ve never seen this show, then now would be an awesome time to start the binging!

  • Other Inspiration:

Joel Sartore: This photographer has been compiling a “photo ark” of every animal species in existence. My son and I love to scroll through the animals in which he captures with incredible precision and detail. It’s very inspirational to see all the different kinds of life that thrive on our planet. We are sometimes so wrapped up in discovering life on other planets in our universe that we forget how unbelievable our own planet is and that there is still much to discover here as well.

That’s all for this week! More inspirations to come every week! Stay tuned!
