This week I have found myself bouncing around between a bunch of different projects, feeling quite scattered in general. Now that everyone is back to work, it’s been a tricky transition to find my groove again. Here’s some of the influences that have come my way to make this week a bit more digestible…
Trevor Hall - The Fruitful Darkness: Trevor is one of the most brilliant lyricists out there. He speaks in such spiritual deep connections with the Earth, people, and life and it really makes me feel grateful every day when I listen to it. His music utilizes eastern sounds and mixes it eclectically with so many other genres. Each listen seems like a new experience. I especially love the track “Moon/Sun” which honestly I find myself singing at the top of my lungs.
Vok - Circles: I honestly love everything this Icelandic band creates. Their atmospheric vibe and the haunting voice makes me feel like I’m driving down icy paths past waterfalls and glaciers. It’s ethereal and I can almost see the huldufolk and elves of Iceland rejoicing to the sounds of this music. They put me in a dreamy state and help me to create some of my most surreal visions. It also helps calm and center me.
Ghostshrimp: I recently went back and listened to an old Creative Pep Podcast with Andy J. Pizza where he interviews Ghostshrimp, the creator of the world of Adventure Time. I was always a massive fan of this animation series and the world is the most colorful, surreal, and something that every child would want to imagine as a land where adventure can happen. Ghostshrimp is not only a phenomenal illustrator, but his passion for art, creativity, and bonding with other creatives is truly inspirational to me. Check out his work at www.ghostshrimpglobal.com
Ancient Aliens. I have been binge watching this History network show on HULU and although some of the episodes are a bit coo-coo, it definitely makes you look at things in our world in a whole new light. It also has great story telling and really gives a creative person a chance to think outside the box. Ultra enjoyable and fun!
The Creative Waffle Podcast: I just discovered this podcast on itunes and I’m really enjoying the people being interviewed. I listened to one with football designer and illustrator Dave Flanagan and I loved hearing his story of how he got to work with some of the world’s biggest football clubs. It definitely inspired me!
Bettina Restaurant: My wife and I got a night out with our friends to check out this new restaurant here in Santa Barbara. The food was made with so much care and they make some of the best wood fired pizza I’ve had. The customer service was superb and its these kind of places that help replenish your soul with good food, good friends, and fun.
That’s all for this week! More inspirations to come every week! Stay tuned!
